Adenovirus, cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) are major causes of morbidity and mortality in immunosuppressed individuals. EBV/CMV infects at least 90% of the world’s population and can persist in a latent form after primary infection. Reactivation can occur years later, particularly under conditions of immunosuppression. Numerous studies have shown that Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV) can infect immunocompetent patients simultaneously with other agents. Thus simultaneous detection of all these viruses aid in clinical management, allowing early treatment in order to prevent disease.

Mylab Discovery Solutions provides multiplex real time PCR detection of CMV, EBV and Adeno virus DNA along with internal control from whole blood. The tests are designed for use across a wide range of PCR platforms. The assay is intended for use in conjunction with clinical presentation and other laboratory markers as an indicator of initiation of therapy and for use as an aid in monitoring viral response to antiviral treatment as measured by changes in plasma or whole blood DNA levels. This test is for use with extracted nucleic acid from EDTA or citrated blood or serum of human origin.
