Rubella is a very infectious viral illness mainly causing fever (raised emperature) and a distinctive red-brown coloured rash. It occurs most commonly in young children, but can affect anyone. The virus is passed on through droplets in the air from the coughs and sneezes of infected people.
The illness is usually mild. But, if rubella occurs during the first trimester of pregnancy, there is a 90% risk of congenital malformations in the fetus. Persistent fetal infection may result in a series of birth defects known as the congenital rubella syndrome (CRS).
Mylab Discovery Solutions presents PathoDetect Rubella Detection kit for real time RT-PCR qualitative detection of rubella virus in nasal and pharyngeal secretions by using real time PCR systems.
One step real time RT PCR allows highly sensitive and specific amplification of the virus using specific primers and detection by taqman probes. An ndogenous gene is detected simultaneously as sample validity control for sample extraction and amplification efficiency
