Thrombophilia is the body’s enhanced tendency to form abnormal blood clots in blood vessels resulting from the Factor V Leiden mutation. It is most seen in the large veins of the legs (deep venous thrombosis, or DVT) or the lungs (pulmonary embolism, or PE). In terms of a condition, it is most prevalent in the white population worldwide.
