The advanced stage of HIV disease i.e., acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), is one of the leading causes of mortality globally. As per the WHO, around 4000 people are infected with HIV every day. Among those cases, nearly 1100 belong to the age group of 15 to 24 years. The incidence rate was the highest (36.7 million) in adults (>15 years). Women (19.7 million) were more vulnerable than men (16.9 million). However, the number of deaths was comparatively lesser in women (2.4 lakhs) than in men (3.2 lakhs).
