Transmitted primarily through direct contact with droplets of infected nasopharyngeal secretions, it is a contagious viral infection that produces its distinctive red rash. In most cases, it may cause mild to no symptoms. But carrying mothers who get infected can lead to severe birth complications in the development of the foetus, going to the extent of its death.
